If you are straightening your teeth, you still need to wear metal or clear braces or plastic aligner trays, and visit the orthodontist regularly to check your progress and make adjustments. The digital age has not passed dentistry by, though.
From start to finish, orthodontists use digital technology to improve care and make your visits faster and more comfortable. Following are some digital advancements in orthodontic technology and what they can mean for you.
When you use Invisalign plastic trays to straighten your teeth, you need to get a new set of trays every two weeks. The initial set-up is created by the laboratory from an initial impression, where CAD-CAM type technology is used to move each tooth in very small increments digitally.
Once this plan is made, the doctor reviews the movements to make sure that they are biologically feasible, and makes adjustments when necessary. From there, an entire set of aligners is made, just from one starting impression converted into a digital 3D model!
Suresmile Orthodontic technology custom-shapes orthodontic arch wires based on three dimensional (3D) digital images of your teeth. The orthodontic robotic technology bends the braces arch wires to within 0.1mm. The 3D model of your teeth gives our Orthodontists the ability to analyse the bite of the teeth from all angles using virtual simulations.
Our orthodontists view the 3D model of your teeth to determine an orthodontic treatment plan. A series of orthodontic arch wires are ordered to their specifications matching the plan. The accuracy of this orthodontic treatment gives faster results with less time in braces.
CT scanning is a great enhancement to traditional X-rays because of a greater amount of information, including three dimensional visualization of every tooth within the jaws. The image lets orthodontists get a more accurate idea of the status of your mouth and what needs to be done to straighten your teeth.
The 3D image lets orthodontists see your mouth from all angles, not just from a single angle as with regular X-rays.
