Do you offer flexible payment plans for orthodontic treatment?
Yes, we provide flexible payment plans to accommodate different budgets. Our costs start from as low as $80 per week, allowing you to receive high-quality orthodontic treatment without breaking the bank.
Do you offer any discounts?
Yes. At Ocean Orthodontics, we offer special discounts for your immediate family members and discounts for paying the cost of your treatment upfront. You can also take advantage of our same-day smiles offer: Start treatment on the same day of your first appointment and get $500 off your braces or clear aligner cost, providing you qualify for treatment. We also offer affordable interest-free payment options.
Why do clear aligners cost the same as fixed braces at your practice?
We believe that the cost of a treatment you genuinely need should not compel you to choose a cheaper alternative. We have structured our treatment options into four-tiered packages based upon the length and complexity of your treatment. This means that no matter which tier your treatment needs fall under, you will pay the same price for any treatments available in that tier.
How are Invisalign® aligners different from braces?
A specialist orthodontist is a dental professional who is registered to practice orthodontics as a specialist in Australia. Our experienced team comprises entirely of registered specialist orthodontists.
What problems can you fix with orthodontic treatment?
Orthodontic treatments can address a wide range of problems including crowding, gaps, protruding teeth, bite alignment issues and more. To find out which orthodontic treatment could help you, schedule a consultation with one of our doctors or send us photos of your smile in a remote consultation.
Should I get Invisalign® or braces?
We offer both Invisalign® and traditional metal braces at our practices. One of our experienced doctors will assess your orthodontic needs and recommend the treatment that is right for you. Fortunately, both treatments cost the same at Ocean Orthodontics so you will not have to choose between the two based on price.
If I have Invisalign® treatment, can I still play sport?
Yes, you can absolutely still play sports. One of the best things about Invisalign® is that it will not interfere with your daily activities. However, Invisalign® is not the same thing as a mouthguard. We recommend wearing a mouthguard to protect your teeth in contact sports and we can make you a custom mouthguard to wear in place of Invisalign® aligners when you play sports.
From what age can I bring my child?
We recommend bringing your child for a checkup by the age of seven. At this point, your child will likely have a mix of adult and baby teeth. Our team can detect and address common childhood problems such as crowding and teeth spacing issues before they appear.
How quickly can you straighten my teeth?
Teeth move at different rates and everyone is different. For example, cases of minor cosmetic adjustments may take only three to six months. More complex cases can take more than a year to correct. The only way we can give you an estimate of your treatment time is to let one of our doctors examine your teeth.
Are braces painful?
Getting braces placed does not hurt, at all. You may experience some discomfort afterwards, however, as your teeth adjust to the pressure from your orthodontic appliance. This discomfort is very easy to manage with cold compresses and pain-relieving medication.

What is the best age for my child to see an orthodontist?
The Australian Society of Orthodontists recommends children have their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. At Ocean Orthodontics, Dr. Sullivan, our Specialist Orthodontist, often sees patients as early as this for assessment, though treatment typically begins between ages 14-18 when most permanent teeth have emerged.
Early evaluations allow us to identify potential issues and determine the optimal timing for treatment. Some children benefit from early intervention with clear aligners to guide proper tooth development, while others may wait until their teens for the most effective results. During your free consultation, Dr. Sullivan will assess your child's unique development and recommend the best timing for their individual needs.
How do I know if my child needs braces?
Several signs indicate your child may benefit from orthodontic treatment. Look for crowded or crooked teeth, gaps between teeth, difficulty chewing or biting, mouth breathing, thumb sucking beyond age 5, or early or late loss of baby teeth.
At Ocean Orthodontics, we use advanced iTero scanning technology during your consultation to create a detailed 3D image of your child's teeth and bite. Dr. Sullivan will assess their jaw development, tooth alignment, and overall oral health to determine if treatment is needed. Many alignment issues aren't immediately obvious to parents, which is why professional evaluation is essential. Our team will explain any concerns clearly and discuss the best treatment options, whether that's traditional braces or Invisalign clear aligners.
Are early orthodontic evaluations necessary if my child's teeth look fine?
Yes, early evaluations are valuable even when teeth appear straight. Dr. Sullivan can identify developing issues that aren't yet visible, such as jaw growth problems, impacted teeth, or bite irregularities that may cause problems later.
Early detection allows us to monitor your child's development and intervene at the optimal time. Sometimes simple early intervention can prevent more complex treatment later. Our advanced technology, including iTero scanning, helps us track changes over time and predict future development patterns. There's no obligation for immediate treatment - we'll simply provide you with valuable information about your child's orthodontic health and any future considerations.
How long will my child need to wear braces?
Treatment duration varies depending on the complexity of your child's case, their age, and the type of treatment chosen. At Ocean Orthodontics, most patients wear braces or aligners for 12-24 months, though some complex cases may require longer.
During your consultation, Dr. Sullivan will provide a personalised treatment timeline based on your child's specific needs. Factors affecting treatment length include the severity of misalignment, patient compliance (especially with removable aligners), and how well teeth respond to movement. Remember, every smile is unique, and we're committed to achieving the best possible results for your child, regardless of how long it takes.
What's the difference between early (Phase 1) and full (Phase 2) treatment?
Phase 1 treatment typically occurs between ages 7-10 while your child still has baby teeth. This early intervention addresses specific issues like severe crowding, crossbites, or harmful habits that could affect jaw development. At Ocean Orthodontics, we offer early intervention with aligners when appropriate.
Phase 2 treatment happens during the teenage years (typically 14-18) when most permanent teeth have emerged. This comprehensive treatment addresses overall alignment and bite correction. Not every child needs Phase 1 treatment - Dr. Sullivan will determine if early intervention would benefit your child or if waiting for Phase 2 treatment is more appropriate. Our goal is always to provide the most efficient, effective treatment plan for each individual patient.
How often will my child need to visit the orthodontist?
During active treatment at Ocean Orthodontics, most patients visit us every 6-8 weeks for adjustments and progress monitoring. Regular appointments allow Dr. Sullivan and our team to assess progress, make necessary adjustments, and ensure treatment stays on track.
Our friendly team understands that frequent visits can be challenging for busy families, so we work efficiently to make each appointment as productive as possible. We'll always keep you informed about your child's progress and any changes to their treatment plan. Between appointments, we're always available to address any concerns or questions you may have about your child's treatment.
Will my child need teeth removed for braces?
Tooth extraction is not always necessary and depends on your child's specific case. Modern orthodontic techniques, including the advanced clear aligner systems we use at Ocean Orthodontics, often allow us to create space through gradual tooth movement rather than extractions.
Dr. Sullivan carefully evaluates each case using our iTero scanner to determine if there's sufficient space for proper alignment. When extractions are necessary, it's typically to address severe crowding or to improve facial profile and bite function. As a Specialist Orthodontist, Dr. Sullivan has extensive training in treatment planning and will always choose the most conservative approach that achieves optimal results. We'll thoroughly discuss any treatment recommendations and ensure you understand the reasoning behind our approach.
